THE CORPORATION [11/23] Basic Training
11. Marketing has transformed itself into a sophisticated, pervasive force that extends into every part of our lives. Slick advertising campaigns are designed for the express purpose of manipulating children into buying products and training them to become mindless consumers of goods they don’t really want. The Nag factor, a marketing study that evaluated the effect of nagging, was designed to teach children how to nag more effectively. Consumers are made, not born. For a playlist of all 23 …
she has an ugly donald trump smile.
introduce your tv to the dump, ureka no more nagging
read your kids a book, take them to the park, teach them some freakin manners
That lady was REALLY creepy. There’s just something irredeemable about someone who has no qualms about manipulating children for profit.
yup, lol
It’s comical how cowards devalue comments but don’t provide rebuttals. Eh?
“if the child nags enough, you’re gonna go”
Wow, what circular reasoning. I can see it now. If you were to tell her of all the people you knew whose parents DID NOT take their kids wherever, she’d probably just say “well it just means they didn’t nag enough”
What nonsense. It’s ultimately the parents’ decision.
As for the copyright of music, that goes to show the problem with government, since copyrights and patents are creations of government, not of the market.
Children don’t have money to buy products. If parents wants to give there children what they want, they why shouldn’t haven’t that right?
”Cause if you dont, then its just not good”
OMG THEY SO SMART!!
i was gonna say the same thing…
wow what a patsy.. they roped him in good and proper….
…and what do you do for a living? You’re Not Making Money in the Market?
“because if you don’t that’s just not good” wow this guys in college and that’s his answer what a lame idiot scary thinker
That’s why college sucks, they let dipshits like those guys in.
why do i want to kill that lady who talks about manipulating children?
The parent has to buy it.
Children being used to make money…. boohoo, who cares, children are stupid, money is better!
What’s a child going to get you? A headache.
What money going to get you? Anything you want!
Don’t use moralism, use common sense.
Kids=shitty pants
Money=power
Money>Children
haha 9:15 – 9:26. kid has no idea what he’s talking about. I feel outsmarted by an ass. note to self: get corporate sponsor ASAP
i love this video my economics teacher showed it too us
Lucy looks like typical greedy trailer trash.
Furthermore, if nagging no longer works, corporations will change their marketing methods.
And no it isn’t called negligence, it’s called discipline. Negligence is denying a child what he or she needs, not what they want.
And excuse me, but being a parent is supposed to be a challenge, and it has been since long before commercials came along. Corporations haven’t made it any harder either. If parenting has become harder its only because parents have become lazier.
I’m not putting it on the child. I’m putting it on the parents. They’re the ones responsible for the wellbeing of their children. It’s up to them to raise them right, to not be influenced by others to do bad things. The corporation is not at fault for marketing to kids, and there is nothing unethical about it. They are not controlling these kids and they are not causing them to do wrong. The fact of the matter is that these kids won’t nag if parents step up and teach them better.
ah, by the way segarch and degauze are both me (accidentally signed in under two accounts). If they forget about the product after 2 hours, then the ad probably isn’t one we’re talking about here.
Not all asking for a product should be rebuffed with a definite no. Yes, if you give a kid all he/she wants then they’ll be spoiled. If you give a kid none of what they want, thats called negligence. When large corporations unfairly shape these wants, it makes it very challenging to be a parent.
They may be able to know what is right and wrong, however it seems odd to put the burden on the child rather than the corporation, who is much older, more powerful, and knows exactly what its trying to do. Children are vulnerable at this age, the ethical thing to do is wait until they grow up before you start shoving products down their throats. Then its reasonable to assume they can make educated decisions for themselves.
No they won’t be killed. Yes some of their soul will be sucked out.
You folks are really overreacting here. The worst that happens is the kid wants it so bad that they nag, and if told no, throw a tantrum. In any case the parents can correct that behavior.
It’s not like the kid is scarred for life or anything. In fact they probably forget about it completely after a few hours.
Don’t underestimate the mentality of a 14 year old, or even a 7 year old for that matter. Don’t assume they aren’t aware of the situation and can’t tell the difference between right and wrong.
And what damage is being done by the corporation? They’re presenting a product to a kid and making them want it real bad. So what? How does that harm them in any way? Are their ads like The Ring, where if you watch it you die? Do the souls of these children get sucked out of them if they see the ads?
Success has nothing to do with ethics. An adult seducing a 14 year old has more certainty of what they are doing, the 14 year old is unlikely to have the experience to know whether or not the relationship is healthy for them.
Whether or not the parent buys the product and the corporation makes the money is not the important event. During the selling process the damage has already been done. The advertiser is using their power to shape the child’s desires without them knowing what is happening.
